More Help for the Shear

by Alan Ray

In response to the March 2020 The Home Shop Machinist pass along email tip,
A Little Help for the Shear
by Sheldon Jaffe, I have basically the same shear and have had the same problems he mentioned.

I plan to implement his modification in the near future – thanks for the tip!

A second problem I had to overcome was due to my limited bench area; I could not secure the shear without a clamping arrangement.
Also, trying to hold the material to prevent it from moving while pulling on the handle proved to be difficult.

With a small bottle jack and some fabrication, I was able to do away with that cumbersome handle.

I can now set the shear anywhere and easily hold and cut the material.
